UMass Boston's Second Half Goals Down Southern Maine 4-0

Box Score
GORHAM, Maine  – Seniors Marcus Pizzetti (Malden, Mass.) and Rolando Barbosa (Fogo, Cape Verde/Brockton), sophomore Edmilson Barros (Praia, Cape Verde/Madison Park Technical Vocational) and  junior Pedro Dasilva (Fogo, Cape Verde/Madison Park) each scored second half goals to lead the UMass Boston Beacons to a 4-0 win over the University of Southern Maine Huskies in a Little East Conference men's soccer match Saturday afternoon at Hannaford Field.

The win is the third straight for the Beacons who surpass the .500 mark to stand at 4-3 overall, while starting their LEC season at 1-0.  Southern Maine dips to 1-6-1 with its second consecutive loss and is 0-1 in the Little East.

Despite outshooting Southern Maine 11-1 in the first half, the Beacons and the Huskies were in a 0-0 deadlock after the first half.  USM freshman goalkeeper Charles Mull (Portland, Maine/Cheverus) made six in the opening 45 minutes to keep the Huskies in the game. The Beacons wasted little time in the second half scoring their first goal of the game as Pizzetti broke through for the eventual game-winner in the 48th minute.   Pizzetti carried the ball into the box, holding off of USM defender, beating Mull to the right of the net.

UMB made it 2-0 in the 57th minute as Barbosa benefitted from a well-placed square ball to the right side of the box from Barros.  Barros made it 3-0 in the 72nd minute heading in his third goal of the season off of a cross to the back post from senior Lenir Lima (Mindelo, Cape Verde/Liceau Ludgero Lima).  Dasilva capped the scoring in the 80th minute with an unassisted goal in the 80th minute.

Mull finished the game making 12 saves for the Huskies.  UMass Boston junior Alfonso Rosales (Revere, Mass.) made two saves to earn the win.

Southern Maine returns to action on Tuesday (4:00 p.m.) when it hosts Colby College in a non-conference match.  The Beacons host the Wentworth Institute of Technology on Wednesday (3:30 p.m.) in their next contest.
