Southern Maine Shuts Out UMaine Farmington 2-0

Box Score
FARMINGTON, Maine – Senior Peyton Dostie (Standish, Maine/Bonny Eagle) and sophomore Leanne Reichert (Portland, Maine) each scored an unassisted goal to lead the University of Southern Maine Huskies to a 2-0 win over UMaine Farmington in a non-conference field hockey game Wednesday afternoon at Prescott Field.

The win stops a two-game slide for the Huskies and improves their overall record to 2-2 on the season.  UMaine Farmington was denied opening its season at 3-0 for the first time since 2010 season with a loss and drops to 2-1.

Backstopped by an outstanding performance in goal from sophomore Amanda Kasbohm (York, Maine), the Huskies earned the 2-0 shutout victory.  Kasbohm made 11 saves, six in the first half and five in the second half, to earn her first victory of the season and her first career shutout.

Despite being outshot 9-3 in the first half, Southern Maine took a 1-0 lead in the 34th minute when Dostie beat UMaine Farmington senior goalkeeper Patricia Smith (Gorham, Maine) on a breakaway for her second goal of the season.  Dostie's 39th goal of her USM career is her first game-winning goal this season.  Dostie now has 10 game-winning goals in her career.  Reichert added an insurance goal in the 61st minute converting a pass from classmate Samantha Crosman (South Berwick, Maine/Marshwood) for the 2-0 final.

Southern Maine hosts Bridgewater State on Saturday (1:00 p.m.) at Hannaford Field in its Little East Conference opener.  UMaine Farmington travels to Daniel Webster on Sunday (1:00 p.m.) for its next contest.
