Box Score 2 GORHAM, Maine -- The University of Southern Maine women's volleyball swept its final two matches of the regular season Saturday afternoon defeating the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth in a Little East Conference match, 3-0, and St. Joseph's College (Me.) 3-1 in a non-conference contest at the Hill Gymnasium.
The two wins extend the Huskies win streak to three, and improved their record to 18-13 overall and 1-7 in LEC play. UMass Dartmouth edged St. Joseph's in five sets, 3-2 (26-24, 21-25, 9-25, 25-20, 15-10) in the middle match to finish the season 11-18 overall and 0-8 in LEC action. St. Joseph's falls to 9-22.
Freshman outside hitter Jessica Williamson (Goffstown, N.H.) paced the Huskies in the opening match against UMD earning her 16th double-double of the season knocking down 12 kills and digging up 14 balls. Junior Renee Trottier (Biddeford, Maine) added seven kills on 16 attacks.
Sophomore setter Megan Nilson (Granby, Conn.) passed out 23 assists and had eight digs. Sophomore Mariah Garcia (Brighton, Colo.) had 10 digs and three service aces. Junior middle hitter Jessica Garrett (Las Vegas, Nev.) had a match-high four aces.
Junior Shannon Orton (Swansea, Mass.) led the Corsairs with four kills, while classmates Eliza Bowes (West Yarmouth, Mass.) and Jasmine Burris (New Bedford, Mass.) had three kills apiece. Sophomore setter Christina Spinazola (Medway, Mass.) had a team-high seven assists, and junior libero Brianna Perry (Acushnet, Mass.) had 11 digs.
Against St. Joseph's, the Huskies had four players reach double figures for kills. Trottier had a double-double with her team-high 15 kills and 15 digs. Williamson posted another double-double with 13 kills and 25 digs. Rookie outside hitter Monica Raymond (Sanbornton, N.H./Winnisquam) and Garrett added 10 kills apiece.
Nilson broke the school four-set record for assists passing out 48 helpers. She surpassed the previous mark of 47 set by Mandy Dessert in 2002. Junior libero Demi Ruder (Grand Junction, Colo.) shared team-high honors with Williamson digging up 25 balls and served three aces.
For St. Joseph's, junior Felicia Wachowiak (Milton, N.H./Nute) shared match-high honors with Trottier pounding home 15 kills. Junior libero Sam Wright (Westport, Mass./Bishop Stang) had a match-high 32 digs on the back row. Junior setter Abbie McPhee (Epping, N.H.) earned a double-double passing out 37 assists and digging up 15 balls.
In the middle match, UMD rallied from a 2-1 deficit to take the final two sets and the victory. Burris had a team-high eight kills. Spinazola passed out 16 assists while senior Caitlin Bien (Millbury, Mass.) passed out 11 assists. Perry had 22 digs.
Sophomore Shadai Gosselin (Somersworth, N.H.) led the Monks with 19 kills and 17 digs. Wachowiak contributed 15 kills, four service aces and two solo blocks. McPhee had a double-double with her 32 assists and 18 digs.
