Southern Maine Downs Husson 3-1

            BANGOR, Maine -- Freshman outside hitter Jessica Williamson (Goffstown, N.H.) earned her 11th double-double of the season to lead the visiting University of Southern Maine women's volleyball team to a 3-1 victory (25-14, 19-25, 25-13, 25-7) over Husson University Thursday evening at the Newman Gymnasium.

            The win gave the Huskies a sweep of the teams home-and-home season series, and improved their overall record to 14-7.  The Eagles slipped to 6-19 overall.

            Williamson had 16 kills and 11 digs for her 11th double-double.  The 5-foot-7 rookie had an outstanding .481 hitting percentage (16-3-27) and also served up five aces.

            Complementing Williamson up front were classmate Monica Raymond (Sanbornton, N.H.) with nine kills, and juniors Renee Trottier (Biddeford, Maine) and Jessica Garrett (Las Vegas, Nev./Palo Verde) with six and five kills, respectively.  Trottier also dug up a match-high 13 balls while Garrett served up four aces.

            Sophomore setter Megan Nilson (Granby, Conn.) quarterbacked the offense passing out 34 assists.  Junior libero Demi Ruder (Grand Junction, Colo./Central) had six service aces, all in the decisive fourth set, and nine digs.  The Huskies served a total of 19 aces in the match.

            Sophomore outside hitter Kristen Atwood (Cumberland, Maine/Greely) had 10 kills and a .471 hitting percentage (10-2-17) to lead the Eagles.  Senior middle hitter Alexandra deHertogh (Cumberland, R.I.) had seven kills on 10 attacks with no errors for a .700 hitting percentage.  Rookie Kayla Hannon (Salem, N.H.) had 10 assists, and freshman Marissa Johnson (Russell, N.Y./Edward Knox) passed out eight.  Freshman Sarah Wilson (Dover, N.H./St. Thomas Aquinas) had nine digs for the Eagles.

            Southern Maine is back in action on Saturday (11:00 a.m.) playing a non-conference tri-match against the University of New England and Maine Maritime Academy at UNE.  Husson is off until October 18 when it will play a pair of North Atlantic Conference matches against Johnson State College and Lyndon State College at Maine Maritime.
