Chao 2OT Goal Lifts UMass Dartmouth Past Southern Maine 2-1

Box Score
GORHAM, Maine – Senior Josh Chao (New Bedford, Mass.) found the back of the net in the closing minutes of the second overtime period to lift the UMass Dartmouth Corsairs to a 2-1 double overtime win over the University of Southern Maine Huskies in a Little East Conference men's soccer game Saturday afternoon at Hannaford Field.

Chao's game-winner improves the Corsairs record to 4-5-1 overall and 1-1-1 in the Little East.  Southern Maine, playing in its fourth overtime game this season, falls to 2-8-2 overall and 0-2-1 in the conference.

Chao scored his fifth goal of the season in the 109th minute placing the ball high on the near post from approximately 10-yard out after collecting a pass from senior JB Macaroco (New Bedford, Mass.).

The Huskies led 1-0 midway through the first half on a goal from junior William Pearsall (Garland, Maine/Dexter).  Pearsall scored his second goal of the season and second in as many games in the 22nd minute slipping the ball under UMass Dartmouth goalkeeper sophomore Luis Carranza (New Bedford, Mass.) to the far post.  Pearsall ran onto a well-time through ball from junior Harrison Hall (Kennebunkport, Maine/Kennebunk).

The Huskies maintained their 1-0 advantage until late into regulation.  The Corsairs forced the overtime action with a goal in the 85th minute. Senior Ryland Foster-Gorbach (West Roxbury, Mass./Catholic Memorial) was in the right place at the right time to collect the rebound off of a save following a direct kick. Foster-Gorbach's second goal of the season was set up after the Corsairs were awarded an indirect kick at the top of the box.

Carranza earned the win making six saves.  Husky freshman goalkeeper Charles Mull (Portland, Maine/Cheverus) played a terrific game in goal despite the loss, making 10 saves.

Southern Maine hosts Bowdoin College on Monday (4:00 p.m.). The Corsairs travel to Massachusetts Maritime on Tuesday (7:00 p.m.).
