Salem State Slips Past Southern Maine 1-0

Box Score
GORHAM, Maine  – Freshman Mohamed Sentissi (Rabat, Morocco) converted a feed from sophomore Pat Scanlon (Stoneham, Mass.) in the 36th minute to net the only goal of the game and lead the Salem State University Vikings to a 1-0 win over the University of Southern Maine Huskies in a non-conference men's soccer game Tuesday afternoon at Hannaford Field.

With the win, the Vikings snap a two-game losing skid to improve to 3-11-1. Southern Maine falls to 2-14-2 with the loss.

Sentissi broke through for his first intercollegiate score after a Huskies' defensive miscue.  Collecting the ball, Scanlon fed Sentissi for the game-winner collecting his first assist of the season. Prior to Sentissi's goal, the Vikings had controlled the pace of play in the first half, outshooting the Huskies 7-1.

Salem State finished the game outshooting Southern Maine 20-7, but was held to a single goal as the goalkeeping tandem of sophomore Elijah Leverett (North Yarmouth, Maine/Greely) and freshman Charles Mull (Portland, Maine/Cheverus) combined to make six saves.  Leverett played the first 45 minutes, allowing one goal and making three saves.  Mull started the second half making three saves.  Salem State senior goalkeeper Nondas Kargakis (Heraklion, Greece/Third HS of Herkalion) did not make a save in the shutout.

Southern Maine closes out its season on the road at Keene State on Saturday (1:00 p.m.).  Salem State travels to Bridgewater State on Saturday (12:00 p.m.).
