Box Score PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Junior middle hitter Michelle Malboeuf (Cumberland, R.I.) paced a balanced Rhode Island College attack with 11 kills as the Anchorwomen swept past the visiting University of Southern Maine Huskies, 3-0 (25-19, 25-19, 25-19), in a Little East Conference match Saturday afternoon at The Murray Center.
The win snapped a two-match losing skid for the Anchorwoman, and improved their record to 11-11 overall and 3-2 in conference play. The Huskies dropped their fifth consecutive match to fall to 15-12 overall. The Huskies remain winless in five LEC matches.
Malboeuf received strong attacking support from classmate Lauren Palazzini (Woonsocket, R.I./Mt. St. Charles) who had nine kills, rookie outside hitter Megan Stanzione (Wilton, Conn.) who swung for six, and junior Morgan Stewart (Willington, Conn./E.O. Smith) contributed five. The Anchorwomen compiled a .274 attack percentage (36-13-84) as a team with Stanzione posting a .385 percentage (6-1-13).
Freshman setter Abigayl White (Coventry, R.I.) dished out 26 assists running the Anchorwomen offense. Sophomore Megan Armburg (Swansea, Mass./Joseph Case) shared match-high honors with nine digs. Armburg also served up a match-high five aces.
Freshman Jessica Williamson (Goffstown, N.H.) led the Huskies with a match-high 13 kills on 33 attacks. Classmate Monica Raymond (Sanbornton, N.H.) and junior Jessica Garrett (Las Vegas, Nev.) added three kills.
Sophomore setter Megan Nilson (Granby, Colo.) had 18 assists, and junior Renee Trottier (Biddeford, Maine) shared match-high honors with Armburg with nine digs. Junior Demi Ruder (Grand Junction, Colo.) had four service aces for the Huskies.
Southern Maine is back on the court on Tuesday (7:00 p.m.) hosting Keene State College in a Little East Conference match. Rhode Island College travels to Western Connecticut State University on Tuesday (7:00 p.m.) for an LEC encounter.
