Box Score LEWISTON, Maine – Junior Hannah Beinecke (Manchester, Mass./Phillips Andover) scored a pair of second half goals to lead the Bates College Bobcats to a 3-0 win over the University of Southern Maine Huskies in a non-conference field hockey game Thursday night in Lewiston, Maine.
With the win the Bobcats halt a two-game slide and improve their overall record to 2-6 on the season. The Huskies dip below .500 on the season with the loss.
After a scoreless first half, Beinecke broke through in the 49th minute for the eventual game-winner. Beinecke doubled the Bobcat advantage in the 61st minute converting a pass from freshman Delaney Nalen (Englewood, Colo./Kent Denver School) for a 2-0 Bates lead. The goals are Beinecke's first and second of the season. The score stood at 2-0 until the final minute of action when freshman Caroline O'Reilly (Longmeadow, Mass.) notched her first intercollegiate goal with an unassisted score for the 3-0 final.
Bates outshot Southern Maine 19-4 and had an 8-1 advantage in shots on goal. The Bobcats also enjoyed a 9-2 lead in penalty corners. Southern Maine sophomore Amanda Kasbohm (York, Maine) made five saves in the loss. Bates senior Cristina Vega (Needham, Mass./Dana Hall) made one save to earn the shutout.
Southern Maine returns to action on Saturday (2:30 p.m.) when it hosts Little East Conference foe Westfield State University. Bates hosts Connecticut College in a NESCAC game on Saturday (11:00 a.m.).
