Eastern Connecticut Drops Southern Maine 4-0

            WILLAMANTIC, Conn.  – Four different players scored as the Eastern Connecticut State University Warriors earned a 4-0 win over the University of Southern Maine Huskies in a Little East Conference men's soccer game Saturday afternoon at Nevers Field.

            With its second consecutive win, Eastern Connecticut ups its record to 7-3-2 overall and 3-1 in the Little East Conference.  Southern Maine, dropping its third straight contest, falls to 2-10-2 and 0-3-1 in the LEC.

            The Warriors scored a pair of goals in each half en route to the win, outshooting the Huskies 22-2.  Senior Jon DeCasanova (Glastonbury, Conn.) scored his first goal of the season in the 19th minute to net the game-winner.  DeCasanova converted a double assist from freshman Xavier Doran (Hebron, Conn./RHAM) and sophomore Tyler Jones (Vernon, Conn./Rockville).

            Two minutes later ECSU doubled its advantage on junior Gavin Neuendorf's (Norwich, Conn./Norwich Free Academy) first goal of the season in the 20th minute.  Doran and sophomore Nicholas Warren (Southbury, Conn./Holy Cross) were credited with assists.

            Warren and Jones each scored early in the second half to give the Warriors an insurmountable 4-0 lead.  Warren scored just 1:31 into the second half, converting the cross into the box from freshman Adam Traxler (Newburyport, Mass.).  Jones followed in the 59th minute beating a pair of Husky defenders in the box after a pass from Doran for the goal.

            Eastern Connecticut sophomore goalkeeper Greg Walton (Brunswick, Maine) earned his seventh win of the season making one save in 75:35 of action.  Sophomore Jason Smith (Gales Ferry, Conn./Ledyard) played the final 14:25 and did not make a save.  USM freshman Charles Mull (Portland, Maine/Cheverus) made 14 saves in goal.

            Southern Maine remains on the road for its next contest and will face the University of New England on Tuesday (4:00 p.m.).  Eastern Connecticut will host Fitchburg State on Tuesday (3:30 p.m.) in its next contest.
