Box Score PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Sophomores Vandall Andrade (Providence, R.I./St. Mary's-Bay View) and Danielle LeBlanc (Warwick, R.I./Pilgrim) each scored nine points to lead the Rhode Island College Anchorwomen to a 47-31 win over the University of Southern Maine Huskies in a low-scoring Little East Conference women's basketball game Tuesday night at The Murray Center.
With the win, Rhode Island College improves to 9-5 overall and 3-1 in the LEC. Southern Maine's two-game win streak is snapped and drops its record to 9-5 overall and 2-2 in the conference.
Andrade was 4-for-9 from the field and grabbed a game-high 12 rebounds to pace the Anchorwomen. LeBlanc came off the bench for her nine points, adding three rebounds, two assists and two steals. Freshman Alex Moore (West Newbury, Mass./Pentucket Regional) added eight points for RIC.
Southern Maine senior Erin McNamara (West Newbury, Mass./Pentucket Regional) led the Huskies with seven points, while sophomore forward Megan Pelletier (Winslow, Maine/Messalonskee).
RIC led wire to wire, scoring the first baskets of the game and jumped out to a commanding 30-11 halftime lead as the Huskies' shot just 10.0 percent from the field in the opening stanza with a 3-for-30 effort from the field. Conversely, the Anchorwomen made 40.7 percent of their shots (11-for- 27).
The Huskies' improved in the second half, shooting 44.4 percent from the field but could not get any closer than 15 points. Both teams were nearly even in all other statistical categories with USM holding a slim 40-39 edge on the boards. RIC won the turnover battle 20-12, and scored 13 of its 47 points off of Husky miscues. USM scored nine points off of RIC turnovers.
Southern Maine travels to Eastern Connecticut State on Saturday (1:00 p.m.). Rhode Island College travels to Plymouth State on Saturday (1:00 p.m.).
