Box Score GORHAM, Maine – Four different players scored goals to lead the University of New England Nor'easters to a 4-1 win over the University of Southern Maine Huskies in a non-conference field hockey game Saturday afternoon at Hannaford Field in Gorham, Maine.
With its first win of the season, UNE evens out its record at 1-1. The Huskies, suffering their second consecutive loss, drop to 2-2 overall.
After Southern Maine junior Peyton Dostie (Standish, Maine) scored her fifth goal of the season to give the Huskies a 1-0 lead in the 13th minute, the Nor'easters stormed back with four unanswered goals to claim the 4-1 victory. Senior Hannah Tavella (Putnam Valley, N.Y.) tallied the equalizer off of an assist from junior Hannah Warren (Harrison, Maine/Oxford Hills) in the 15th minute.
The score remained locked at one all until the 27th minute when senior Casey Clark (Franconia, N.H.) drove in the eventual game-winner to give the Nor'easters a 2-1 lead at the half. UNE added a pair of insurance goals from Warren and senior Brittany Liptak (Westfield, Mass.) in the 39th and 59th minute respectively.
UNE freshman goalkeeper Holly Smith (Peabody, Mass.) earned the win making four saves. USM freshman Amanda Kasbohm (York, Maine) took the loss allowing three goals and making four saves in 40:56. Senior Kayla Kennedy (Windham, Maine) finished the final 29:04, making two saves and allowing one goal.
Southern Maine hosts UMaine Farmington on Wednesday (4:00 p.m.) in a non-conference game. The University of New England travels to Colby College on Tuesday (7:00 p.m.) for a non-conference game.
