Southern Maine Defeats Husson 3-1

BANGOR, Maine – Sophomore Renee Trottier (Biddeford, Maine) hit a solid .257 with a match-high 11 kills on 27 attempts as the University of Southern Maine Huskies defeated the Husson University Eagles 3-1 (25-21, 25-13, 23-25, 25-22) in a non-conference women's volleyball match Tuesday night at Newman Gym.

With the win, Southern Maine gets the season sweep of the Eagles and improves to 12-3 overall.  Dropping its second consecutive match, Husson falls to 7-9 overall.

Trottier added five digs and five assists for the Huskies.  Sophomore Jessica Garrett (Waterboro, Maine/Palo Verde (NV)) added eight kills, while freshman Kristina Rubico (Chelmsford, Mass.) swung for seven kills. Freshman Megan Nilson (Granby, Conn.) orchestrated the Huskies' attack with 23 assists and a match-high six service aces. Defensively, sophomore Demi Ruder (Clifton, Colo.) had 21 kills, while freshman Amanda Keppel (Springfield, Pa./Merion Mercy) added 17 digs, four services aces and six kills.

Southern Maine returns to action on at Western Connecticut on Saturday (12:00 p.m.) for a tri-match including John Jay College.  Husson travels to UMass Dartmouth for a tri-match with Plymouth State on Saturday (1:00 p.m.).
