Eastern Connecticut Trumps Southern Maine 3-1

Box Score
MANSFIELD, Conn.  –  Sophomore Hannah Keiser (Danbury, Conn.) scored two goals and senior Morgan Osiecki (Bethel, Conn.) added a third to lead the Eastern Connecticut State University Warriors to a 3-1 win over the University of Southern Maine Huskies in a Little East Conference field hockey game Saturday afternoon in Mansfield, Conn.

With its third straight loss, Southern Maine falls to 3-5 and 0-2 in the Little East.  The win stops a two-game slide for the Warriors and improves their record to 4-3 overall and 1-1 in conference action.

The Huskies led 1-0 in the 15th minute following freshman Leanne Reichert's (Portland, Maine) unassisted goal – her second of the season – before the Warriors rallied for two goals before halftime to take a 2-1 lead at the break.  Keiser netted her fifth goal of the season on an assist from Elly Walker in the 22nd minute, before Osiecki tallied the eventual game winner in the 34th minute to put Eastern Connecticut up 2-1.  Osiecki's goal was her first of the season.

In the second half, the Huskies pressured the Eastern defense tallying penalty corners and two shots on goal, but Keiser added an insurance goal ringing in her team-leading sixth of the season in the 50th minute following a penalty corner to give the Warriors a two-goal cushion.

The Huskies had several near goals late in the game, but Warrior goalkeeper Olivia Mullen was up to the task, stopping a penalty stroke in the 64th minute, while Kelly Gawron (Ramsey, N.J.) made a defensive save in the 64th minute.

Mullen finished with eight saves to earn the win for Eastern Connecticut.  Husky senior Kayla Kennedy (Windham, Maine) took the loss allowing two goals and making a save in the opening 35 minutes.  Freshman Amanda Kasbohm (York, Maine) finished the final 35 making six saves and allowing a goal.

Southern Maine returns to action on Wednesday (4:00 p.m.) when it hosts St. Joseph's College.  Eastern Connecticut
