Southern Maine Defeats St. Joseph's (Conn.), Falls to Framingham State

FRAMINGHAM, Mass.  – The University of Southern Maine Huskies' volleyball team split its pair of matches defeating the St. Joseph's College (Conn.) Bluejays 3-0 and falling to the Framingham State University Rams 3-0 Saturday afternoon in Framingham, Mass.

            With its split, Southern Maine's six-match win streak comes to an end as the Huskies' record stands at 8-2 overall.  With its win over Southern Maine, Framingham State improved to 5-1 overall.  St. Joseph's of Connecticut falls to 2-5 with its loss to the Huskies.

Freshman Amanda Keppel (Springfield, Pa./Merion Mercy) hit for 10 kills and had 19 digs and three service aces to lead USM to its 25-17, 25-21 and 25-14 win over the Blue Jays, while sophomore Renee Trottier (Biddeford, Maine) added seven kills.  Freshman Megan Nilson (Granby, Conn.) had 12 assists and classmate Shelby Park (Thorbun, Nova Scotia/North Nova) added 11 assists.  Sophomore Demi Ruder (Clifton, Colo./Central) had a solid defensive effort with 15 digs.

The Blue Jays Clara Perez led her team with nine kills, while Megan Williams had 18 assists and nine digs.

Keppel again led the Huskies  in their 26-24, 25-20, 27-25 loss to Framingham State.  Keppell had 10 kills and 18 digs for USM, while Ruder had 16 digs and a pair of service aces. The Rams were led by 12 kills from Alycia Rackliffe.

            Southern Maine returns to action on Tuesday (7:00 p.m.) when it travels to Unity College.
