Dostie Leads Southern Maine Past Wheaton 3-0

Box Score
GORHAM, Maine  – Junior Peyton Dostie (Standish, Maine/Bonny Eagle) assisted on the Huskies first two goals of the game and scored the third to lead the University of Southern Maine to a 3-0 win over the Wheaton (Mass.) College Lyons in a non-conference field hockey game Saturday afternoon at Hannaford Field in Gorham, Maine.

The win is the second straight for the Huskies who improve to 2-0 overall early in the 2013 season. Wheaton dips to 1-1 with its first loss.

Senior Natalie Harkins (Windham, Maine) and senior Rebecca Pratt (Cornville, Maine/Skowhegan) scored the Huskies' first and second goals respectively.  Harkins first goal of the season put USM ahead of the Lyons just five minutes into the game after she redirected a pass from Dostie.  Pratt gave the Huskies a 2-0 advantage heading into the break, notching her first goal of the season in the 31st minute.  Pratt was in the right place at the right time and rocketed in a shot, collecting a loose ball following a deflection off of a Dostie attempt.

After assisting on the first two goals of the game, Dostie finally broke through for a goal of her own in the 46th minute for a 3-0 USM advantage.  Dostie was the recipient of a well-played pass from senior back Cristina Mountain (Dexter, Maine/Dexter Regional) on a penalty corner.

Wheaton freshman goalkeeper Madison Wolters (Marstons Mills, Mass./Barnstable) made seven saves as the Huskies held a 13-3 advantage in shots.  USM freshman Amanda Kosbohm (York, Maine) earned her second win making one save in 54:32 of action before giving way to senior goalkeeper Kayla Kennedy (Windham, Maine) for the final 15:28.

Southern Maine hosts Gordon on Thursday (4:00 p.m.).  Wheaton (Mass.) travels to Anna Maria on Tuesday (6:00 p.m.).
