Box Score GORHAM, Maine - Freshman Julia Murphy (Canton, Mass.) had a match-high eight kills on 10 attempts for an outstanding .800 hitting percentage to lead the UMass Boston Beacons to their ninth consecutive victory over the University of Southern Maine Huskies in a Little East Conference women's volleyball match Tuesday evening at Hill Gym.
With the win, the four-time defending Little East Conference champion Beacons improved their record to 9-9 overall and stay undefeated in conference action at 3-0. The Huskies fall to 16-5 overall and are still in search of their first conference victory at 0-3.
Murphy led the Beacons to a strong .338 hitting percentage as a team. Senior Megan Pollock (Wilton, Calif./Pleasant Grove) coordinated the Beacon offense with a match-high 24 assists and chipped in with a pair of service aces. Junior Kristen Morrison (North Reading, Mass.) added five kills on 11 attempts and one error.
Southern Maine freshman Kristina Rubico (Chelmsford, Mass.) had a team-high five kills for the Huskies. She added four digs and a service ace. Freshman Amanda Keppel (Springfield, Pa./Merion Mercy) and sophomore Kelsey Abramson (Deerfield, Mass./Frontier Regional) each added four kills.
Southern Maine returns to action on Thursday (7:00 p.m.) when it hosts Husson University. UMass Boston is next in action on Friday (6:00 p.m.) when it hosts Trinity (Conn.) in a non-conference match.
