Box Score GORHAM, Maine - Junior Jana Nieman (Fair Lawn, N.J.) had a team-high 12 kills to lead a balanced attack as the Plymouth State University Panthers defeated the University of Southern Maine Huskies 3-1 in a Little East Conference women's volleyball match Tuesday night at Hill Gym. The Panthers won the match 25-17, 19-25, 25-21 and 25-17.
The win snaps a two-match losing streak for Plymouth State, improving their record to 12-11 overall and 3-1 in the Little East Conference. The Huskies fall to 17-6 with the loss and remain winless in conference action at 0-4.
Nieman swung for a solid 25.8 hitting percentage, adding five digs and two block assists. Senior Kaitlyn Tedschi (Pascoag, R.I./Burrillville) has 11 kills on 22 attempts with three errors for a 36.4 hitting percentage, while freshman Mikki Taffe (Sandown, N.H./Timberlane Regional) also hit for 11 kills to round out three Panthers in double digits. Sophomore Kirsten Perrotta (Hudson, N.H./Notre Dame) directed the Panthers offense with a match-high 45 assists.
Southern Maine freshmen Kristina Rubico (Chelmsford, Mass.) and Amanda Keppel (Springfield, Pa./Merion Mercy) paced the Huskies. Rubico and Keppel each had 13 kills. Rubico added a pair of service aces and seven digs and Keppel added six digs. Freshman Megan Nilson (Granby, Conn.) had 35 assists, two aces and a match-high 13 digs.
Southern Maine travels to Eastern Nazarene on Saturday (1:00 p.m.) for a non-conference tri-match with Mount Ida. Plymouth State will take part in the Smith College Tri-Match with Mount Holyoke on Saturday (12:00 p.m.).
