GORHAM, Maine - Freshman Amanda Keppel (Springfield, Pa./Merion Mercy) swung for a solid 31.2 hitting percentage with a match-high 14 kills to lead the University of Southern Maine Huskies to a 3-1 win over the Husson University Eagles Thursday evening at Hill Gym. The Huskies defeated Husson 25-8, 25-18, 22-25, 25-20.
Winners of five of their last six matches, the Huskies improve to 17-5 overall. The Huskies also earn the season sweep over the Eagles winning all three matches. The loss is the second straight for the Eagles dropping their record to 8-15 overall. Husson is 0-6 in the road this season.
Keppel reached double-digits in kills for the seventh time this season, hitting for 14 kills on 32 attempts with just four errors. Keppel added a pair of service aces and a team-high 13 digs. Freshman Kristina Rubico (Chelmsford, Mass.) and sophomore Jessica Garrett (Waterboro, Maine/Palo Verde (NV)) each had 10 kills. Sophomore Kelsey Abramson (Deerfield, Mass./Frontier Regional) helped USM to a total of 18 service aces serving for six, while freshman Megan Nilson (Granby, Conn./Granby) coordinated the Husky attack with 40 assists.
Freshman Lindsay Chapman (Gorham, Maine) led the Eagles with 10 kills on 23 attempts for a solid 30.4 hitting percentage. Chapman added six digs. Freshman Casey Lopes (New Bedford, Mass./Greater New Bedford) had 16 assists, three kills and a team-high nine digs.
Southern Maine returns to Little East Conference action on Tuesday (7:00 p.m.) when it hosts Plymouth State. Husson University host Maine Maritime in a North Atlantic Conference match on Tuesday (7:00 p.m.).
