Nationally Ranked Bowdoin Downs Southern Maine 4-1

            GORHAM, Maine – The sixth-ranked Bowdoin College Polar Bears women's ice hockey team received goals from four different players en route to a 4-1 victory over the University of Southern Maine Huskies in non-conference action Tuesday night at the USM Ice Arena.

            The Polar Bears extended their unbeaten streak to 13 games (12-0-1) and improved their overall record to 12-1-1.  The Huskies dropped their second straight to slip to 4-6-4 on the season.

            Senior Kayte Holtz (New Berlin, Wis.), rookie Rachel Kennedy (Trumbull, Conn.) and senior Kim Tess-Wanat (Fond du Lac, Wis.) each had a goal and an assist to lead the Polar Bears' offense.  Senior Stephanie Ludy (Shrewsbury, Mass.) had the other Bowdoin goal.  Senior goalie Tara Connolly (Simsbury, Conn.) stopped 10 shots to record her fifth win of the season.

            Senior Kailey Bubier (Auburn, Maine) had the Huskies lone goal.  Sophomore goalie Liz Bergstrom (Chanhassen, Minn.) recorded 27 saves.

            Bowdoin scored a pair of goals 1:24 apart early in the first period to take command.  Holtz was left uncovered in front of Bergstrom and turned home a pass from Tess-Wanat for her fourth goal of season at 4:11.

            Moments later, Kennedy won a one-on-one battle along the right wing boards, skated into the circle and snapped a shot past Bergstrom for an unassisted marker.

            Before the first period finished, Ludy made it 3-0 with her ninth goal of the season.  Kennedy and rookie Ariana Bourque (West Barnstable, Mass.) picked up the assists.

            After a scoreless second period, the Huskies got on the board as Bubier tucked the rebound of a shot from junior Jackie Lacroix (Barre, Vt.) past Connolly at 7:53.  The goal was the fourth of the season for Bubier.  Lacroix and senior Alex Smith (Winthrop, Mass.) were credited with the assists.

            Tess-Wanat added an insurance goal, assisted by Holtz and sophomore Chelsea MacNeil (Moncton, N.B.), for the Polar Bears with 46 seconds remaining.

            Bowdoin outshot Southern Maine 31-11 during the contest.

            Southern Maine is back in action Friday evening (7:00 p.m.) when it hosts Saint Anselm College for an ECAC Women's East contest.  Bowdoin will host third-ranked Middlebury College this Friday (7:00 p.m.) and Saturday (3:00 p.m.) for a two-game NESCAC series.
