Box Score NASHUA, N.H. – The University of Southern Maine Huskies volleyball team lost third straight match 3-0 to the Daniel Webster College Eagles Wednesday night at Mario Vagge Gymnasium in Nashua, N.H.
The Eagles (1-0) topped the Huskies 25-14, 25-17, 25-21 to open their season. The Huskies, who lost matches to Maine Maritime Academy and St. Joseph's Maine Saturday, fall to 0-3.
Senior middle blocker Jennifer Finneran (Barnstead, N.H./Prospect Mountain) tallied a career-high 16 kills to go along with four solo blocks to lead the Eagles. Senior middle blocker Chelsey Crawford (Westfield, Mass./Westfield) chipped in with 15 kills of her own and three aces.
Junior outside hitter Madalyn Terry (Kennebunkport, Maine/Kennebunk) led the Huskies with six kills and 10 digs. Freshman middle blocker Kelsey Abramson (Deerfield, Mass./Frontier Regional) chipped in with five kills, and freshman defensive specialist Bridget Burns (Warrenville, IL/Wheaton Warrenville South) contributed 16 assists.
Daniel Webster jumped out to early leads in the first two sets, distancing themselves from the Huskies with leads of 7-2 and 15-5. Crawford led the Eagles in the first set with four kills and Finneran notched three kills and three solo blocks. Senior outside hitter Samantha Hill (Hudson, N.H./Alvirne) added eight digs and three kills for Daniel Webster.
The Huskies made a strong effort in the final set, as Terry tallied three kills and five digs, but it was not enough as the Eagles pulled away from 13-12 lead with a 5-1 run to end the set.
Southern Maine will host a non-conference tri-match Saturday against Curry College (11:00 a.m.) and Massachusetts Maritime Academy (1:00 p.m.). Daniel Webster will host a tri-match of its own on Saturday against Mount Ida College and Wentworth Institute of Technology.
