#1 Norwich Downs Southern Maine 7-2

            GORHAM, Maine – Junior Tori Charron (Tecumseh, Ontario) scored a pair of goals to help the #1 ranked Norwich University Cadets defeat the University of Southern Maine Huskies, 7-2, in an ECAC Women's East game Saturday afternoon at the USM Ice Arena.

            The win extends the Cadets' unbeaten streak to six games improving their record to 4-0-2 overall and 4-0-0 in league play.  The Huskies are 1-1-0 overall and in league games.  The Cadets were ranked number one in the nation in this week's USCHO.com Division III poll.

            Norwich dominated the first period holding USM without a shot on goal while pouring 16 shots in on sophomore goalie Liz Bergstrom (Chanhassen, Minn.).  Senior Jillayne DeBus (Howell, Mich.) put the visitors ahead in the opening minute of play, and classmate Stephanie Invernizzi (Hingham, Mass.) doubled the lead at 12:13 with a power-play goal.

            Junior Renee Lortie (Cornwall, Ontario) tallied what proved to be the game-winning goal when she roofed an unassisted short-handed marker at 4:20 of the middle period to make it 3-0.

            Sophomore Erin Banfield (Montpelier, Vt.) got the Huskies on the board at 8:51 converting a rebound.  Junior Bridget O'Brien (Boston, Mass.) and freshman Cassandra Sherman (North Smithfield, R.I.) picked the assists.

            Before the end of the period, junior Haley Gibson (Richmond, Ontario) would restore the Cadets' three-goal advantage with an unassisted goal.

            Junior Kayla Parsons (Fairbanks, Alaska), on the power play, and Charron found the net in the opening 10 minutes of the third period to increase the lead to 6-1.

            Senior Kailey Bubier (Auburn, Maine) scored her first goal of the season for USM at 13:26.  Charron scored her second goal of the game, and team-leading seventh of the season, 29 seconds later to close out the scoring.

            Bergstrom finished the game stopping 39 shots for USM.  Sophomore Loren Carrier (Chandler, Ariz.) picked up her third win of the campaign for Norwich recording 15 saves.  Norwich finished the game with a 46-17 advantage in shots on goal.

            Southern Maine hits the road next weekend to play at New England College on Friday (4:00 p.m.) and Castleton State College on Saturday (2:00 p.m.).  Norwich will be at home next weekend hosting the University of Massachusetts Boston on Friday (7:00 p.m.) and Saint Anselm College on Saturday (3:00 p.m.).
