UMass Dartmouth Runs Past Southern Maine 5-0

            NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass. – Five different players scored as the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth Corsairs cruised to a 5-0 win over the University of Southern Maine Huskies in a Little East Conference field hockey game Saturday afternoon at Cressy Field.

            The win is the sixth straight for the Bears who improve to 9-3 overall and remain undefeated in the Little East Conference with a 7-0 record.  The Huskies fall to 5-9 overall suffering their second straight loss and drop to 2-5 in the LEC. 

            The Corsairs to a 2-0 lead into the halftime break as senior Taryn Cardiel (Moorpark, Calif.) and junior Tiffany Richard (Fitchburg, Mass.) each scored.  Cardiel's goal came just 48 seconds into the game, while Richard knocked in her fifth goal of the season in the 14th minute.

            Freshmen Alison Ladue (Bridgewater, Mass./Bridgewater-Raynham) and Cory Connolly (Duxbury, Mass.) and senior Jenna Miedzionoski (Beverly, Mass./Hamilton-Wenham Regional) each scored in the second half for the 5-0 final.  Richard assisted on Connolly's goal in the 51st minute, while senior Erica Allan (Ahmerst, Mass.) had a pair of second half assists for the Corsairs.

            UMass Dartmouth held a 26-11 advantage in shots and out-cornered the Huskies 22-3.  USM junior goalkeeper Kayla Kennedy (Windham, Maine) made six saves and allowed five goals in 55:10 of action before being relieved by freshman Casey White (Brewer, Maine).  White made one save and did not allow a goal in the final 14:50.  UMass Dartmouth junior Lauren O'Brien (Rochester, Mass./Old Rochester Regional) made six saves to earn the shutout.

            Freshman Marina Davidson (Windham, Maine) and junior Crissy Mountain (Dexter, Maine) each made a pair of defensive saves for the Huskies.

            Southern Maine travels to Bates on Tuesday (4:30 p.m.) for a non-conference game.  UMass Dartmouth travels to Trinity (Conn.) on Tuesday (7:00 p.m.) for a non-conference game.
