Box Score BIDDEFORD, Maine – Senior Ashley Hickey (West Gardiner, Maine/Gardiner) score an unassisted goal in the 81st minute to lead the University of New England Nor'easters to a thrilling 2-1 overtime win over the University of Southern Maine Huskies Thursday evening in Biddeford, Maine.
With the win, University of New England snaps a two-game losing streak and evens out its record to 5-5. The Huskies fall to 5-8 with the loss.
The Huskies led UNE 1-0 until the 67th minute. Southern Maine took the lead in the 28th minutes as junior Ariel Kaplan (North Berwick, Maine/Marshwood) scored off of an assist from freshman Allison Ward (Rockland, Maine/Oceanside). USM maintained the lead despite constant pressure from the UNE offense through the half and late into regulation before junior Hannah Tavella (Putnam Valley, N.Y.) scored the equalizer on an assist from Hayley LaPointe (Topsham, Maine/Mt. Ararat) and senior Emily Koehler (Pelham, N.H.) to force overtime.
In the overtime period, Hickey took just under 11 minutes to deliver the win for the Nor'easters notching her first goal of the season.
UNE outshot the Huskies 27-5 for the game and held a big 16-4 edge in penalty corners. Sophomore Kaitlyn Warren (Boscawen, N.H.) made two saves to earn the win for the Nor'easters while junior Kayla Kennedy (Windham, Maine) made seven saves in the loss.
Southern Maine travels to UMass Dartmouth on Saturday (4:00 p.m.) for a Little East Conference game. University of New England travels to Salve Regina on Saturday (1:00 p.m.) for a Commonwealth Coast game.
