Box Score BABSON PARK, Mass. – The University of Southern Maine Huskies volleyball team lost to the Babson College Beavers 3-0 (25-21, 25-16, 25-19) in a non-conference women's volleyball match at Staake Gymnasium Thursday night.
With the win, the Beavers — who are ranked 14th in New England in the latest New England Women's Volleyball Association (NEWVA) poll — improved their record to 14-4 on the year. The Huskies drop to 7-12 overall with the loss.
Babson benefitted from strong offensive performances from senior middle blocker Ashley Strangio (Rockville Center, N.Y./South Side), and freshman middle blocker Krissy Robertson (Dedham, Mass./Ursaline Academy) who combined for 23 kills and a .463 hitting percentage.
Junior opposite hitter Christina Cervini (Shrewsbury, Mass./Worcester Academy), and freshman outside hitter Alicia Wilde (Franklin, Mass.) contributed five kills apiece for the Beavers. Senior setter Kathleen Lynch (Quincy, Mass./North Quincy) finished with 35 assists and 11 digs, and sophomore defensive specialist Kseniya Stepanova (Upland, Calif.) added 11 digs of her own.
For Southern Maine, junior outside hitter Annie Mitchell (Gorham, Maine) and freshman middle blocker Kelsey Abramson (Deerfield, Mass./Frontier Regional) led the way with four kills apiece. Freshman libero Demi Ruder (Clifton, Colo./Central) tallied 10 digs, Mitchell posted eight digs, and freshman setter Bridget Burns (Warrenville, Ill./Wheaton Warrenville South) added seven assists for the Huskies.
Southern Maine returns to action Saturday when the host University of New Brunswick St. John's (11:00 a.m.), and Husson University (3:00 p.m.) in a non-conference tri-match at Hill Gym.
