Southern Maine Drops Two In Tri-Match

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The University of Southern Maine Huskies volleyball team lost both matches 3-0 to the Rhode Island College (RIC) Anchormen and the St. Joseph's (Maine) College Monks in a tri-match at The Murray Center Saturday.

            The Anchormen defeated the Huskies in the first match of the day — a Little East Conference match — by scores of 25-13, 25-16, and 25-15, and the Monks topped the Huskies in the day's second match by scores of 25-10, 25-19, and 25-14.

            RIC is now 10-14 overall and 2-4 in the LEC, and St. Joseph's improves its record to 19-5. USM drops to 9-18 overall and 0-6 in the LEC with the two losses.

            The Anchormen benefitted from a 14-kill, 6-dig, and 3-ace performance by senior outside hitter Breanna Boyer (West Greenwich, R.I./La Salle), and junior outside hitter Amanda Cabral (Riverside, R.I./East Providence) added eight kills, seven digs, and three aces to help lead RIC over Southern Maine.

             Senior setter Jessica Ho (Providence, R.I./Classical) distributed a game-high 33 assists, and freshman libero Jasmyn Starr chipped in with 12 digs for RIC.

            Senior middle blocker Krista Keene (Gorham, Maine) had seven kills to pace the Huskies. Freshman middle blocker Kelsey Abramson (Deerfield, Mass./Frontier Regional) added five kills, two digs, and two aces, and junior outside hitter Madalyn Terry (Kennebunkport, Maine/Kennebunk) chipped in with six kills and two digs. Sophomore setter Nicole Hansen (Biddeford, Maine) contributed with 18 assists.  

            Southern Maine returns to action when they host Keene State in a LEC match at Hill Gym Tuesday (7:00 p.m.).
