Dostie Hat Trick Powers Southern Maine Over Worcester State 4-0

WORCESTER, Mass.  – Sophomore forward Peyton Dostie (Standish, Maine/Bonny Eagle) scored three first half goals to lead the University of Southern Maine Huskies to a 4-0 win over the Worcester State University Lancers in a Little East Conference field hockey game Wednesday night at Coughlin Field in Worcester, Mass.

            With the win, Southern Maine snaps a four-game losing streak and improves to 6-11 overall and 3-6 in the Little East.  Worcester State falls to 2-13 and 0-9 in the conference. 

            The Huskies' leading scorer, Dostie tacked on three more goals for a team-high total of 12 goals this season.   Dostie struck for the Huskies' first goal midway through the opening half with a rocket of a shot from outside the circle. Dostie's shot in the 16th minute deflected off of a Lancer defender for an unassisted goal and a 1-0 USM lead.

            Dostie made it 2-0 in favor of the Huskies when she finished an assist from junior Stephanie Lomasney (York, Maine) in the 32nd minute.  Dostie's third goal of the half came in the 33rd minute when she cleaned up a Lancer defensive save for another unassisted goal.  Dostie's 12 goals are tied for 10th in the Huskies' single season record books. 

            Southern Maine freshman back Allison Ward (Rockland, Maine/Oceanside) scored her second goal of the season for 4-0 final.  Ward knocked in the goal in the 50th minute off of an assist from junior Christina Mountain (Dexter, Maine/Dexter Regional). 

            USM junior goalkeeper Kayla Kennedy (Windham, Maine) made four saves to earn the shut out win.  Lancer senior Rebecca Mullen (Peabody, Mass.) made six saves in the loss.

            Southern Maine will host Fitchburg State on Saturday (12:00 p.m.) in a Little East Conference match.   Worcester State travels to Eastern Connecticut on Saturday (12:00 p.m.) for a conference game.
