Box Score CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – University of Southern Maine Huskies sophomore setter Nicole Hansen (Biddeford, Maine) and freshman middle blocker Kelsey Abramson (Deerfield, Mass./Frontier Regional) each served up six aces, and junior outside hitter Madalyn Terry (Kennebunkport, Maine/Kennebunk) tallied six kills to help push the Huskies past the Pine Manor College Gators 3-0 (25-15, 25-8, 25-17) in a non-conference volleyball match at Brunelli Court Tuesday night.
With the win, Southern Maine improves to 9-16 overall. Pine Manor drops to 3-10 with the loss.
Six Huskies contributed to tie a season-high 21 team aces, and, along with Terry, three other players had at least four kills to play a role in the Southern Maine attack. Junior outside hitter Annie Mitchell (Gorham, Maine) had four aces, Terry and freshman libero Demi Ruder (Clifton, Colo./Central) had two, and freshman setter Bridget Burns (Warrenville, Ill./Wheaton Warrenville South) finished with one.
Mitchell turned in five kills, sophomore opposite hitter Abby Boissonneault (Saco, Maine/Thornton Academy) and Abramson had four kills each, and senior middle blocker Krista Keene (Gorham, Maine) contributed with two kills. Ruder also tallied eight digs, and Hansen distributed a game-high 19 assists.
Sophomore right side Natasia Franklin (Windsor, Conn.) led the Gators with five kills, and sophomore outside hitter Destiny Mann (Orlando, FL/Cypress Creek Senior) finished with three aces and nine digs. Freshman outside hitter Michelle Cole (Quincy, Mass./North Quincy) added a match-high 10 digs for Pine Manor.
Southern Maine returns to action on Saturday when they travel to Rhode Island College for a tri-match against Little East Conference foe Rhode Island College (11:00 a.m.) and St. Joseph's (Maine) (1:00 p.m.).
