BIDDEFORD, Maine – The University of Southern Maine Huskies volleyball team dropped a pair of matches Saturday afternoon at the University of New England Nor'easter's Harold Alfond Forum in Biddeford, Maine. USM fell to the Eastern Connecticut State University Warriors 3-0 (25-15, 25-10 and 25-11) in its opening match and then dropped another 3-0 loss to the Nor'easters 3-0 (25-8, 25-11 and 25-13).
ECSU moves to 11-11 on the year and 2-3 in league matches. The Huskies slip back to 8-16 overall (0-5 LEC) with the two defeats. The University of New England is 12-6 with the split, falling to Eastern Connecticut 3-1.
In the first match, seniors Katie Wilson (Pittsburg, Calif.) and Danielle Bourne (Branford, Conn.) combined for 24 kills to lead Eastern Connecticut State University to a 3-0 Little East Conference (LEC) women's volleyball victory over the University of Southern Maine Saturday morning (Oct. 13) at the Harold Alfond Forum on the campus of the University of New England. Set scores were 25-15, 25-10, and 25-11.
Junior Samantha Browning (Mystic, Conn.) added seven kills for the Warriors, who received 18 assists from sophomore Jess Patrizi (Beacon Falls, Conn.) and another 11 from classmate Allie Henry (Middletown, Conn.). First-year Allie Luppi (Tewksbury, Mass.) accounted for half of Eastern Connecticut's aces total with four.
Defensively, junior Erynn Miller (Stratford, Conn.) picked up a match-best 14 digs, and Wilson contributed nine.
For Southern Maine, junior Madalyn Terry (Kennebunkport, Maine) totaled a team-high five kills, and sophomore Nicole Hansen (Biddeford, Maine) supported the attack with eight assists. Junior Annie Mitchell (Gorham, Maine) tallied a squad-best eight digs.
In the second match, Jess Garrett's 10 kills paced the Nor'easters, while Maria Kuehl's match high 36 assists led the UNE attack. For the Huskies', Terry had four kills
Southern Maine travels to Pine Manor College on Tuesday (7:00 p.m.) for its next match.
