Box Score

GORHAM, Maine -- Freshman Julia Pearl (Essex Jct., Vt.) scored a power-play goal at 5:37 of the second period to give the University of Southern Maine Huskies a 1-0 victory over the visiting University of Massachusetts Boston Beacons in an ECAC Women's East game Saturday afternoon at the USM Ice Arena.

The win snapped a three-game winless streak (0-2-1) for the Huskies, and improved their record to 5-9-3 overall and 5-4-1 in league play.  The Beacons drop to 6-8-2 overall and 4-6-1 in ECAC games.

Pearl received the puck about 30 feet out and beat UMB senior goalie Leah Hallett (Rocky Hill, Conn.) through a screen for her sixth goal of the season.  Sophomore Courtney White (Medford, Mass.) and junior Alex Smith (Winthrop, Mass.) picked up the assists.  Pearl now has three game-winning goals and two game-tying goals among her sixth markers this season.

Southern Maine rookie goalie Liz Bergstrom (Chanhassen, Minn.) protected the lead the rest of the way making 20 saves, including nine in the final period, for her second shutout of the season.  Hallett finished the game with 19 saves before being lifted twice in the final 1:23 in favor of the extra attacker.
