PROVIDENCE, Rhode Island – Senior guard Cynthia Guadet (Coventry, R.I./La Salle Academy) scored a game-high 18 points to lead three players in double-figures as the Rhode Island College Anchorwomen defeated the University of Southern Maine Huskies 74-50 in a Little East Conference women's basketball game Tuesday night at The Murray Center in Providence, Rhode Island.

         The loss halts a six-game winning streak for the Huskies and drops their overall record to 10-4 and 2-2 in the Little East.  The Anchorwomen extend their win streak to seven games and improve to 10-2 overall and 4-0 in the Little East Conference. 

         Guadet was an outstanding 7-for-11 from the field, on a night when the Anchorwomen were dialed into the basket, for her game-high 18.  Senior forward Rachel Riley (Coventry, R.I.) added a double-double with 12 points and a game-high 14 rebounds and senior guard Stephanie Coro (North Providence, R.I.) added 11 points.

         The Anchorwomen shot a scorching hot 51.9 percent (14-for-27) from the field in the first half, including a back-breaking 66.7 percent (8-for-12) from the three-point line. Rhode Island finished the game shooting a solid 46.3 percent from the field (25-for-54).  Conversely, the Huskies were ice cold offensively finishing the game shooting just 31.4 percent (16-for-51) from the floor.  The Huskies also suffered from 23 turnovers that Rhode Island College converted into 29 points. 

         Leading the Huskies by 30-26 with 4:30 remaining in the first half after a three-pointer from USM senior Nicole Garland (Portland, Maine/Deering), the Anchorwomen closed out the half on an 11-0 run to take a commanding 41-26 lead into the break.  Guadet was instrumental in the run for RIC, scoring eight of her 18 points on two three-pointers and a lay-up. 

         In the second half, RIC outscored the Huskies 8-2 in the opening five minutes to grab an insurmountable 49-28 lead with 15:26 to play.  From there, the Anchorwomen controlled the pace of play and the Huskies never were able to get closer than 18 points the rest of the way as their shooting struggles worsened in the second half.  USM connected on just seven of 25 field goals in the second stanza (28.0 percent). 

         Junior forward Haley Jordan (Falmouth, Maine) was the only USM player in double-digits scoring 14 points on a 5-for-9 effort from the field.  She added five rebounds.  Garland and senior forward Courtney Cochran (Waite, Maine/Woodland) each scored nine points.  Cochran had a team-high six rebounds. 

         Southern Maine hosts UMass Dartmouth on Saturday (1:00 p.m.).  Rhode Island College travels to Trinity College on Thursday (7:00 p.m.).
