Box Score 1 | Box Score 2
GORHAM,  Maine –  The University of Southern Maine Huskies women's volleyball team dropped a pair of matches Saturday afternoon at Feldman Arena in Danbury, Conn.  The Huskies fell to the Western Connecitcut State Colonials 3-0 (25-3, 25-6 and 25-8) in a Little East Conference match and then fell to the City College of New York Beavers 3-0 (25-21, 25-10 and 25-0).

With the pair of wins, Western Connecticut improves its record to 11-2 overall and 2-0 in the Little East Conference.   The City College of New York improved to 2-12 with its win over Southern Maine snapping a five-game winless streak, while the Huskies remain in the hunt for their first win of the season at 0-7 and 0-2 in the Little East Conference.

Western Connecticut rolled past Southern Maine in the first game 25-3 and then continued to dominate play en route to 3-0 victory.

The Colonials took a quick 4-0 lead behind the serving of freshman Nina Wojtkiewicz (Griswold, CT).  Senior Kelley Collins (Massapequa, NY) then stepped to the service line with a 4-1 lead, and served 12 straight points (including one ace) for a 16-1 Colonial lead.  After Southern Maine went on a two-point run, freshman Jennifer Hogan (Franklin Square, NY) served the final nine points of game one for a 25-3 WestConn win.

The Colonials again took a 4-0 advantage to begin game two, behind a kill by freshman Shirley Rodriguez (New Haven, CT) and an ace by freshman Heather Williams (Kingston, NY).  A kill and a block by Southern Maine's Alysse Tasse (Gilmanton, NH) closed the gap to 5-3, but the WestConn advantage quickly moved to 9-3.  After a Southern Maine side-out, Collins stepped to the service line for WestConn and (like game one) put on a serving clinic that include five aces and stretched the WestConn lead to 20-4.  Another Husky two-point run made the score 20-6, before Heather Williams served out game two for the Colonials, adding two more aces to her total.

For the third straight game, WestConn moved out to a 4-0 lead, but Southern Maine fought back to even the score at 5-5 behind an ace by freshman Kendall Weeks (Gilford, NH) and a kill by sophomore Annie Mitchell (Gorham, ME).  Rodriguez then took the service line for WestConn and didn't surrender the ball until the Colonials had a commanding 19-5 lead.  Included in the Colonial run were two kills by sophomore Raquel Williams (New Haven, CT) and two Rodriguez aces.  After another brief Southern Maine run, senior Michelle Hearns (Bedford Hills, NY) closed out the match with a service ace, and a 25-8 game-three victory.

In the second match of the day for the Huskies, Southern Maine fought valiantly in the first game before dropping a 25-21 decision to the Beavers.  CCNY then took control of the match winning the next two games handily 25-10 and 25-9.
