Box Score GORHAM, Maine – Freshman OH Leah Janelle (Madbury, N.H./Oyster River) and junior MB Paige Curran (Chelmsford, Mass.) each had seven kills to lead the University of New England Nor'easters to a 3-0 win over the University of Southern Maine Huskies in a non-conferenced women's volleyball match Thursday night at Hill Gymnasium in Gorham, Maine. UNE defeated USM 25-7, 25-10 and 25-13.
With the win, UNE halts a two-game losing streak to improve to 3-9 overall. The loss keeps Southern Maine winless on the season at 0-5.
Janelle hit for a respectable .286 with seven kills on 14 attacks and three errors and added a service ace and two digs for the Nor'easters. Curran was a force offensively for UNE with an outstanding .500 hitting percentage on seven kills, one error and 12 attempts, while adding a match-high six aces, a solo block and four digs.
Sophomore OH Annie Mitchell (Gorham, Maine) and senior MB Hannah Patterson (Londonderry, N.H.) each had two kills, five digs and a solo block for the Huskies.
Southern Maine travels to Western Connecticut State on Saturday (12:00 p.m.) for a Little East Conference match. The University of New England plays again on Wednesday (7:00 p.m.) at Wentworth.
