Paradis, Bubier Lead Southern Maine Past Colby 4-1

            GORHAM, Maine -- Junior Katie Paradis (Rochester, NH) had the game-winning goal and two assists, and sophomore Kailey Bubier (Auburn, Maine) scored a pair of goals, as the University of Southern Maine women's ice hockey team defeated Colby College, 4-1, Tuesday night in a non-conference game at the USM Ice Arena.

            The win snapped a three-game winless stretch for the Huskies who improved to 5-12-2 overall, and gave them a split of the season series with their in-state rival.  The Mules lost their third straight to slip to 7-13-0 overall.

            Tied 1-1 after two periods, Paradis converted a 2-on-1 with junior Joanna Gaube (Woodstock, Conn.) into her fifth goal of the season at 9:23 of the final stanza to put the Huskies ahead for good.  Six minutes later, Paradis poke checked the puck away from a Colby skater onto the stick of Bubier who lifted a back-hander past Colby rookie goalie Brianne Wheeler (Brussels, Ontario) for her second goal of the game.  Bubier leads the Huskies with nine goals on the season.

            The Huskies picked up an insurance goal less than a minute later when rookie forward Erin Banfield (Montpelier, Vt.) deflected a shot from the left point by sophomore Nanci Crossman (Livonia, Mich.) back to the near post past Wheeler for her seventh goal.

            Southern Maine grabbed a 1-0 lead in the opening period as Bubier lit the lamp for a power-play goal at 14:02.  Paradis and junior Jana Sacco (Niagara Falls, Ontario) picked up the assists.  Colby tied the score late in the second period as sophomore Kathy Shei (Inverness, Ill.) potted a power-play marker off an assist from senior Stephanie Scarpato (Osterville, Mass.).

            USM rookie goalie Jordan Lee (Colorado Springs, Colo.) played a steady game in goal stopping 26 of 27 shots to earn her fifth win.  Wheeler made 11 saves before giving way to classmate Grace Dickinson (Northfield, Ill.) who did not record a save. 

            Southern Maine hits the road this weekend traveling to Vermont for games at Saint Michael's College on Friday (4:00 p.m.) and Norwich University on Saturday (1:00 p.m.).  Colby travels to Connecticut for games at Trinity University on Friday (7:00 p.m.) and Wesleyan University on Saturday (3:00 p.m.).
