Box Score NORTHFIELD, Vt. -- The second-ranked Norwich University women's ice hockey team continued its offensive barrage of late with a 10-0 win over the University of Southern Maine in an ECAC Women's East game Saturday afternoon at Kreitzberg Arena.
The Cadets (5-1-0, 4-0-0 ECAC East) have scored 32 goals in their last three games, and with Saturday's win they extended their ECAC East regular season unbeaten streak to 25 straight games. The Huskies (1-1-0, 1-1-0 ECAC East) have lost their nine encounters with the Cadets. The two teams will meet again at USM on February 3.
Freshman Kaycie Anderson (Maple Plain, Minn.) led the Cadets' onslaught against two Husky goaltenders netting a hat trick. Senior Julie Fortier (Saint Malachie, Quebec) added two goals and two assists, while junior Jillayne DeBus (Howell, Mich.) contributed a goal and three assists. Sophomore Renee Lortie (Cornwall, Ontario) dished out three assists.
Sophomore goalie Kelly Fisk (Hannibal, N.Y.) played just over 40 minutes and turned aside six shots to pick up her third win of the season and improve to 3-0-0. Senior Chiara Traversa (Torino, Italy) came on for the final 17:56 of the game and saw her first action since the 2009-10 season after she took a year off to study abroad.
Freshman Liz Bergstrom (Chanhassen, Minn.) stopped 33 shots for Southern Maine before giving way to classmate Nikki Lauziere (Milton, Vt.). Lauziere made six saves over the final 17:56. The Cadets outshot the Huskies, 49-7, and held the visitors to 0-for-6 on the power play.
Southern Maine will play its home opener next Friday (4:00 p.m.) when it hosts New England College. Norwich will be back in action when it travels to the University of Massachusetts Boston on Friday (6:00 p.m.).
