Box Score GORHAM, Maine – Senior Elsa Gelagay (San Jose, Calif./Oak Grove) had a match-high 11 kills to lead the UMaine Fort Kent Bengals to a 3-1 win over the University of Southern Maine Huskies in a non-conference women's volleyball match Saturday afternoon at Hill Gymnasium in Gorham, Maine.
With the win, the Bengals improve to 4-7 overall. The Huskies remain winless at 0-13. UMaine Fort Kent defeated Southern Maine 25-15, 22-25, 25-7 and 26-24.
Gelagay recorded a double-double with 11 kills and 10 digs. Sophomore setter Savannah Ash (Waialua, Hawaii) and junior middle blocker Quintina Young (Portland, Maine) each added six kills. Ash had a match-high 21 assists and added five digs, while Young added four digs. Senior outside hitter Megan Land (Salinas, Calif.) had an outstanding 11 aces for the Bengals.
Sophomore outside hitter Annie Mitchell (Gorham, Maine) led the Huskies offensively with a season-high eight kills. Mitchell added three service aces and four digs. Freshman middle blocker Tracey Ivan (Manomet, Mass./Plymouth South) and sophomore setter Madalyn Terry (Kennebunkport, Maine/Kennebunk) each had four kills. Terry had 11 assists and five digs, while Ivan added three digs and three solo blocks.
Southern Maine hosts Plymouth State on Tuesday (7:00 p.m.) in a Little East Conference match. UMaine Fort Kent travels to UMaine Presque Isle on Friday (7:00 p.m.).
