Box Score GORHAM, Maine – Freshman Kristen Morrison (North Reading, Mass.) and sophomore Amber Clemons (Simi Valley, Calif.) combined for 22 kills, swinging for 11 each, to lead the 17th-ranked UMass Boston Beacons to a 3-0 win over the University of Southern Maine Huskies in a Little East Conference women's volleyball match Tuesday night at Hill Gymnasium in Gorham, Maine.
With its 14th consecutive win, UMass Boston improves to 14-2 overall and 3-0 in the Little East Conference. The loss drops Southern Maine's record to 0-11 overall and 0-3 in the conference.
Morrison and Clemons each had an outstanding .667 hitting percentage to lead the Beacon attack that hit for a sparkling .577 percentage as a team. Junior setter Frana Burtness-Adams (Fairbanks, Alaska/Austin E. Lathrop) effectively quarterbacked the Beacon offense with 19 assists, while senior Cassy Hanneman (Denver, Colo./Arapahoe) added 10 assists and three service aces.
Southern Maine sophomore Annie Mitchell (Gorham, Maine) led the Huskies with two kills, two service aces and a match-high seven digs. Senior Eryn Neptune (Readfield, Maine/Maranacook) added five digs.
Southern Maine returns to action on Thursday (7:00 p.m.) when it travels to St. Joseph's College (Maine) for a non-conference match. UMass Boston travels to Endicott College on Thursday (7:00 p.m.).
