Eastern Connecticut Cruises Past Southern Maine 3-0

GORHAM, Maine  – Senior Kristianna Ibsen (Shelton, Conn.) hit an outstanding .583 with seven kills on 12 attempts without an error to lead the Eastern Connecticut State University Warriors to a 3-0 win over the University of Southern Maine Huskies in a Little East Conference women's volleyball match Saturday at Hill Gymnasium in Gorham, Maine. 

         With the win, the Warriors earn their third consecutive victory and improve to 19-9 overall and 3-4 in the Little East Conference.  For the Warriors, two of the three wins have been against conference opponents.   Southern Maine concludes its 2011 campaign with an 0-22 record and an 0-7 mark in the Little East.

         Ibsen added four digs and a pair of solo blocks as the Warriors downed Southern Maine in quick fashion 25-9, 25-3 and 25-10.  The Warriors hit a solid .274 as a team.  Junior Katie Wilson (Pittsburg, Calif./Norwich Free Academy) added five kills on nine attempts without an error for a .566 hitting percentage.  Wilson added a match-high seven service aces and a team-high eight digs.

         Senior Hannah Patterson (Londonderry, N.H.) led Southern Maine with four kills.  Defensively, senior Eryn Neptune and sophomore Annie Mitchell (Gorham, Maine) paced the Huskies.  Mitchell had a team-high eight digs, while Neptune added seven. 

         Eastern Connecticut will return to action on Tuesday (7:00 p.m.) in the first round of the 2011 Little East Conference Women's Volleyball Championship.
