Box Score GORHAM, Maine –Sophomore Brooke Dyer (Lebanon, Maine/St. Thomas Aquinas) swung for nine kills on 14 attempts without an error for an outstanding .642 hitting percentage to lead the St. Joseph's College Monks to a 3-0 win over the University of Southern Maine Huskies in a non-conference women's volleyball match Thursday night at Hill Gymnasium in Gorham, Maine. The Monks defeated USM 25-7, 25-7 and 25-4.
The win snaps a two-match losing streak for St. Joseph's College and improves its overall record to 18-10 overall. The Huskies fall to 0-21with the loss.
Dyer added a pair of service aces as the Monks made quick work of the Huskies with a team hitting percentage of .437 (31-3-64). Junior Sarah Hawkes (Pownal, Maine/Freeport) added seven kills on 16 attempts without an error and chipped in with three service aces and nine digs. Senior setter Kiah Begley (Berwick, Maine/St. Thomas Aquinas) had a match-high 28 assists and three service aces, while senior Jordan Pelczar (Meredith, N.H./Inter-Lakes) served an outstanding nine service aces.
USM senior Hannah Patterson (Londonderry, N.H.) led the Huskies with two kills and a solo block. Sophomore Madalyn Terry (Kennebunkport, Maine) had four assists and a team-high seven digs.
Southern Maine concludes its season on Saturday (1:00 p.m.) when it hosts Eastern Connecticut State University for a Little East Conference match. The Monks travel to Framingham State on Friday (7:30 p.m.) for a non-conference match.
