GORHAM, Maine  -  The University of Southern Maine Huskies fell to the University of New England Nor'easters and the Maine Maritime Academy Mariners by the score of 3-0 in a pair of non-conference women's volleyball matches Saturday afternoon at UNE's Campus Center Gymnasium in Biddeford, Maine.   UNE defeated the Huskies by the score 25-8, 25-5 and 25-4, while the Mariners defeated the Huskies 25-9, 25-7 and 25-13.

         With the pair of losses Southern Maine remains winless on the season to fall to 0-17.  The Nor'easters improve to 10-11 with the win, while Maine Maritime improves its record to 17-3.

         The Nor'easters swung for an impressive .596 hitting percentage as a team to defeat the Huskies.  Sophomore Maria Kuehl (Middleton, N.H./Farmington) led the UNE attack with eight kills on nine attempts for an outstanding .889 kill percentage, while freshman Leah Janelle (Madbury, N.H./Oyster River) and senior Abby Davis (Somersworth, N.H.) each added seven kills, while Davis had six service aces.  Ashley Thibodeau orchestrated the UNE offense with 25 assists.

         Southern Maine senior middle blocker Hannah Patterson (Londonderry, N.H.) and freshman setter Nicole Hansen (Biddeford, Maine) each had two kills to lead the Huskies.

         Sophomore Melissa Lail (Elizabeth, Colo.) had a match-high seven kills to go along with three service aces and five digs to lead Maine Maritime over USM.  Using a balanced attack, MMA had three players with six kills including sophomore Chantal Adderley (Nassau, Bahamas/St. Augestine's College), freshman Sydney Robertson (Barnstead, N.H./Prospect Mountain) and senior Heather Moore (Macedon, N.Y./Palmyra-Macedon). 

         Patterson and sophomore Madalyn Terry (Kennebunkport, Maine/Kennebunk) each had three kills for Southern Maine.  Terry added two service aces, while Patterson had a solo block.

         Southern Maine hosts Pine Manor College on Tuesday (7:00 p.m.).  The University of New England travels to St. Joseph's College on Tuesday (6:00 p.m.).
