Box Score 2 SALEM, Mass. – The University of Southern Maine Huskies volleyball team dropped a pair of matches at the Salem State Invitational falling to the host Salem State University Vikings 3-0 (25-14, 25-12 and 25-9) and the Curry College Colonels 3-0 (25-12, 25-9, 25-10) Saturday afternoon at Twohig Gymnasium in Salem, Mass.
With the losses, Southern Maine remains winless in 2011 with an overall record of 0-10. Salem State, which won both of its matches defeating Curry College 3-0, improves to 2-10. Curry College moves to 3-11 with the split.
Over the course of two matches, sophomore outside hitter Annie Mitchell (Gorham, Maine) paced the Huskies with six kills, eight digs and one solo block. Freshman middle blocker Tracey Ivan (Manomet, Mass./Plymouth South) had five kills and two solo blocks in her first matches for the Huskies.
Sophomore setter Madalyn Terry (Kennebunkport, Maine/Kennebunk) and freshman setter Nicole Hansen (Biddeford, Maine) combined for 13 assists. Terry added two kills, three service aces and six digs to her seven assists, while Hansen had nine digs.
Southern Maine hosts UMass Boston on Tuesday (7:00 p.m.) in a Little East Conference match. Salem State is in action on Saturday (11:00 a.m.) at Gordon College.
