PLYMOUTH, N.H. -- Senior guard Kaylie DeMillo (Jay, Maine) scored her 1,000th career point as the University of Southern Maine Huskies defeated the Plymouth State University Panthers, 76-62, in a Little East Conference women's basketball game Wednesday night at Foley Gymnasium.

The win was the fifth straight for the Huskies who improved to 10-6 overall and 5-1 in the Little East Conference.  The Panthers fell to 7-8 overall and 1-5 in the conference with their seventh straight loss.

DeMillo, one of five Southern Maine players to score in double figures, tallied 14 points, grabbed seven rebounds and had four assists and four steals.  The 5-foot-7 senior co-captain is the 19th USM women's basketball player to score 1,000 points.  She currently has 1,003 points, 230 rebounds, 248 assists and 121 steals in her career, and is third all-time in career three-pointers with 184.

USM senior forward Becky Dixon (Gardiner, Maine) led the Huskies with 17 points and nine rebounds.  Junior forward Courtney Cochran (Waite, Maine/Woodland) added 15 points and five rebounds, while sophomore guard Haley Jordan (Falmouth, Maine) and freshman guard Erin McNamara (West Newbury, Mass./Pentucket Regional) each scored 10 points.  Jordan also grabbed eight rebounds.

Plymouth State Alicia Doucet (Manchester, N.H./Central) led all scorers with 26 points on an outstanding 9-for-18 effort from the field, and corralled 11 rebounds.  Sophomore forward Colleen O'Hara (Otego, N.Y./Unatego Central) added 13 points and seven rebounds.

The Huskies led wire-to-wire with McNamara scoring the first points of the game.  The Huskies held a 39-29 lead at the half as Cochran (13) and Dixon (10) combined for 23 of the Huskies' points.

Plymouth State stayed within 10-12 points of USM in the opening five minutes of the second half, and trailed 46-35 with 15:19 to play following a layup from Doucet.

However, a DeMillo three on the Huskies next possession sparked a 21-7 outburst over the next six minutes to provide the Huskies with their largest lead of the game, 67-46, with 9:09 on the clock.  DeMillo had seven points, two rebounds and two assists in the pivotal run, and netted her 1,000th career point on a layup following a steal by junior guard Kim Rivet (Bridgton, Maine/Lake Region).

Plymouth State inched back to within 13 points, 69-56, with 4:27 to play following a pair of free throws from Doucet, but never got any closer the rest of the way as McNamara answered with a three on USM's ensuing possession to shut the door.

Southern Maine hosts Western Connecticut State University on Saturday (1:00 p.m.).  Plymouth State travels to the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth on Saturday (1:00 p.m.).
