Nor'easters Blank Southern Maine to Open USM Invitational

            GORHAM, Maine -- Freshman setter Nicole Kalinowski (Tucson, Ariz./Tucson Magnet) turned in a solid collegiate debut leading the University of New England Nor'easters to a 3-0 win over the University of Southern Maine Huskies Friday night in the first match of the 2010 USM Invitational at Hill Gymnasium.  The Nor'easters defeated USM decisively 25-7, 25-14 and 25-14.

            Kalinowski had nine assists, three kills, four aces and three digs to pace UNE to a season-opening win.  Dropping its second consecutive match, Southern Maine dips to 0-2 with the loss.

            Kalinowski's setting helped UNE to a .449 kill percentage for the match.  Sophomore middle hitter Paige Curran (Chelmsford, Mass.) also turned in a strong performance for the Nor'easters totaling six kills, four solo blocks and four service aces. 

            USM junior outside hitter Kayla Cotsis (Biddeford, Maine) led her team with three kills.  Senior outside hitter Danielle Netland (Cumberland, Maine/Greely) added two kills and four digs. 

            Southern Maine returns to action at the USM Invitational on Saturday (10:00 a.m.) against Salem State College.  The Nor'easters face Maine Maritime Academy at 12:00 p.m.  The Huskies will face Maine Maritime Academy at 6:00 p.m.
