Laliberte Leads UMaine Farmington Over Southern Maine 2-1

Box Score
FARMINGTON, Maine    –  Senior forward Hattie Laliberte (Guilford, Maine) scored two goals to lead the University of Maine at Farmington Beavers to a 2-1 win over the University of Southern Maine Huskies in a non-conference field hockey game Wednesday afternoon at Prescott Field in Farmington, Maine.

The loss is the second straight for the Huskies who fall to 2-4 with the loss.  The Beavers remain undefeated early in the season and improve to 2-0 with the win.

Laliberte's two goals helped the Beavers overcome a 1-0 deficit after USM freshman Ariel Kaplan (South Berwick, Maine/Marshwood) gave the Huskies the lead in the 21st minute with her first collegiate goal.  Southern Maine sophomore forward Whitney McDaniel (Livermore, Maine/Livermore Falls) was credited with the assist.

Laliberte's first goal of the game came late in the first half, knotting the score up at one goal each in the 31st minute with an unassisted tally.  Laliberte's second goal in the 51st minute gave the Beavers the lead for good when she slotted home the game-winner off of an assist from junior midfielder Jessica Martin (Winthrop, Maine).

The Huskies tried furiously for the equalizer in the final moments of regulation with four consecutive penalty corners and a narrow miss on a shot from sophomore forward Kailey Bubier (Auburn, Maine/Hebron Academy) but were unable to score.

UMF senior goalkeeper Sarah Brown (Windham, Maine) earned the win, making five saves.  USM freshman goalkeeper Kayla Kennedy (Windham, Maine) made two saves.

Southern Maine hosts Little East Conference opponent Western Connecticut State in its home opener on Saturday (12:00 p.m.).  UMaine Farmington hosts Mercy College on Saturday (11:00 a.m.).
