Eastern Connecticut Shuts Out Southern Maine 3-0

            MANSFIELD, Conn. -- Sophomore forward Cory Tobler (Portland, Conn./Oakwood) snapped a scoreless draw in the 25th minute and the Eastern Connecticut State University Warriors added a pair of insurance markers in the second half en route to 3-0 victory over the University of Southern Maine Huskies in a Little East Conference men's soccer match Saturday afternoon.

            The Warriors improved to 8-3-1 overall and 3-1-0 in Little East Conference play.  The Huskies fall to 3-8-1 overall and 2-2-0 in the conference.

            Tobler ran onto a through ball to go one-v-one with USM senior goalkeeper David Kreps (Agawam, Mass./Wilbraham & Monson).  Tobler placed a low shot from in close past Kreps for his fifth goal of the season.  Sophomore Bradley Fletcher (Middletown, Conn./Xavier) and senior Sean Capezzone (Colchester, Conn./Bacon Academy) picked up assists on the play.

            The match remained at 1-0 until the 67th minute when junior Matt Furman (Montville, Conn.) finished off another one-v-one opportunity against Kreps.  Junior Sean Collins (Bristol, Conn.) added a goal in the 78th minute banging home a hard, one-time shot from 18 yards out.

            Junior Carl Appel (West Windsor, Conn./Notre Dame) posted his sixth clean sheet of the season making two saves.  Kreps made six saves over 84-plus minutes before giving way to sophomore Jeremy Turner (Portland, Maine/Deering) who did not make save over the final five minutes.

            The Warriors had a 13-6 edge in shots and a 5-2 advantage in corner kicks.

            Southern Maine travels to the University of Maine Farmington on Tuesday (3:30 p.m.) for a non-conference game.  Eastern Connecticut hosts Kean University on Sunday (6:00 p.m.) in a non-conference match under the lights.
