PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The University of Southern Maine Huskies women's volleyball team dropped a pair of matches at a tri-match hosted by Rhode Island College, falling to Worcester State University 3-0 (25-19, 25-16, 25-12) and later to the host Anchorwomen 3-0 (25-7, 25-12, 25-22).
The two losses stopped a three-match winning streak for Southern Maine and dropped its record to 6-20 overall and 0-5 in the Little East. Rhode Island College, which defeated Worcester State in the first match of the day, upped its record to 13-15 overall and 2-3 in the Little East. With the split, Worcester State improves to 13-14 overall.
Senior outside hitter Shannon Shuttle (New Ipswich, N.H./Mascenic Regional) had 14 kills, 12 digs and four service aces in two matches to lead Southern Maine. Freshman middle hitter Meghan Rumore (Manchester, N.H./Manchester West) added nine kills and five digs, while senior setter Danielle Netland (Cumberland, Maine/Greely) chipped in with 20 assists.
Southern Maine hosts Keene State College on Tuesday (7:00 p.m.) in a Little East Conference match. Worcester State travels to Wentworth Institute on Tuesday (7:00 p.m.), and Rhode Island College travels to Western Connecticut State University on Tuesday (6:00 p.m.).
