UMass Dartmouth Sinks Southern Maine 2-1

NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass.   –  Sophomore forward Erica Allan (Amherst, Mass.) had a goal and an assist to lead the UMass Dartmouth Corsairs to a 2-1 win over the University of Southern Maine Huskies in a Little East Conference field hockey game Saturday afternoon at Cressey Field in North Dartmouth, Mas.

            With the win, the Corsairs remain undefeated in the Little East Conference at 8-0 and improve their overall record to 10-5. The loss is the fourth straight for Southern Maine, which falls to 5-11 overall and 3-5 in the conference.

            The Corsairs scored both of their goals in the first half and then rode a solid performance by freshman goalkeeper Lauren O'Brien (Rochester, Mass./Old Rochester). O'Brien made seven saves in the win. Allan netted the Corsairs first goal of the game in the 15th and then assisted sophomore forward Eleanor Taylor (Fairhaven, Mass./Bishop Stang) in the 34th minute for the eventual game-winner. 

            Southern Maine sophomore forward Kailey Bubier (Auburn, Maine/Hebron Academy) pulled the Huskies to within a goal of the Corsairs with her ninth goal of the season in the 43rd minute.  However, USM was unable to score the equalizer in the final 27 minutes of action.

            USM freshman goalkeeper Kayla Kennedy (Windham, Maine) made 12 saves in the loss.

            Southern Maine hosts Plymouth State on Wednesday (3:30 p.m.).  UMass Dartmouth travels to Eastern Connecticut State University on Wednesday (4:00 p.m.)
