            GORHAM, Maine -- Senior outside hitter Shannon Shuttle (New Ipswich, N.H./Mascenic Regional) combined for 25 kills and senior setter Danielle Netland (Cumberland, Maine/Greely) had 41 assists and 20 service aces over two matches as the University of Southern Maine Huskies collected a pair of wins Saturday with a 3-0 victory over the University of Maine Presque Isle Owls and a 3-1 victory against the University of Maine Machias Clippers at the Warren Hill Gymnasium.

            With pair of wins, Southern Maine halts a six-match losing streak and improves to 5-18 overall.  Southern Maine defeated UMPI 25-22, 25-17 and 25-10 in its first match, then downed UMaine Machias 25-27, 25-6, 25-12 and 25-12.

The Owls rallied from a two-set deficit to defeat the Clippers, 3-2.  Game scores were 20-25, 22-25, 25-19, 26-24 and 15-10.  The Owls end the day with a 3-11 record.  UMaine Machias fell to 4-10 with the two losses..

            In the Huskies' first match, Shuttle swung for a match-high 13 kills with a solid .281 hitting percentage on 32 attempts.  Netland was lights-out on the serve connecting for 14 aces.  She quarterbacked the offensive attack with 17 assists.  Netland's 14 aces are fourth all-time in three-game match history at USM. 

            In the second match, Netland again led the USM attack with 24 assists and added six service aces.  Shuttle paced the Huskies' with 12 kills.

            Southern Maine travels to Pine Manor College on Thursday (6:00 p.m.) for its next match.  UMaine Presque Isle and UMaine Machias both compete at the University of Maine Fort Kent tri-meet on Saturday (11:00 a.m.).
