FARMINGTON, Maine -- Sophomore Danielle Poulin (Readfield, Maine/Maranacook) scored her first goal of the season in the 69th minute to give the visiting University of Southern Maine Huskies a 1-0 victory over the University of Maine at Farmington in a non-conference women's soccer match Tuesday afternoon at Prescott Field.
The win was the second straight, and third in four matches, for the Huskies who are 3-1-0 on the season. The Beavers, under the direction of former USM and UMF standout and first-year head coach Molly (Hagstrom) Wilkie, slip to 1-3-0.
Poulin broke a scoreless deadlock at 68:33 making a strong individual push down the sideline and firing a shot into the back of the net to give the Huskies a 1-0 edge.
Senior goalkeeper Alison Bradley (Auckland, New Zealand) posted her second straight shutout for USM making five saves. Sophomore Mckell Barnes (Durham, Maine) was credited with three saves in the UMF goal. UMF piled up a 17-8 advantage in shots over the course of the match.
Southern Maine returns home on Saturday (1:00 p.m.) to host Keene State College in the teams' Little East Conference opener. UMF hosts Maine Maritime Academy for a North Atlantic Conference match on Saturday (3:15 p.m.).
