Dorais Paces USM at Little East Conference Championship

            DARTMOUTH, Mass. -- Sophomore Leia Dorais (Biddeford, Maine) was the University of Southern Maine women's cross country team's first finisher placing 22nd overall Saturday at the annual Little East Conference Championship meet held at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth.

            Eastern Connecticut State University won its second team title in three years, edging defending champion Keene State College, 48-59.  Plymouth State University finished third with 76 points.  Southern Maine placed sixth among the eight schools competing with 150 points.

            Dorais was 20th amongst the scoring runners completing the 5,000-meter UMD women's course in a time of 20 minutes, 32.60m seconds.

            Freshman Savannah Valle (Waterboro, Maine/Massabesic) was USM's second finisher coming home in 28th place overall (25th scoring) with her time of 20:48.70.  Sophomore Emily Colby (Lunenburg, Vt./Lyndon Institute) was next in 38th position (33rd scoring) clocking in at 21:41.31.

            Rounding out the Huskies top five scorers were freshman Heather Van Dolman (Orono, Maine) and sophomore Rachael Raymond (East Waterboro, Maine/Massabesic).  Van Dolman came in 42nd overall (34th scoring) with a time of 21:58.02, and Raymond was 47th overall (38th scoring) in 22:27.71.

            Keene State College senior Lauren Perkowski successfully defended her individual title, winning by nearly 27 seconds with her time of 18:22.33.

            The LEC meet is the Huskies final tune-up prior to the NCAA New England Regional Championship on November 16.  This year's regional is being held at Bowdoin College.
