Lindsay Named LEC Offensive Player of the Week
GORHAM, Maine -- For the first time in her collegiate career, University of Southern Maine sophomore Sophie Lindsay (Pasadena, Calif.) has been selected by the Little East Conference for weekly honors as she was named the Offensive Player of the Week for the period ending October 6th. The conference office made the announcement Monday afternoon.
In three matches covering 11 sets last week, the second-year setter/right-side hitter averaged 2.36 kills and 6.00 assists per set, and posted double-doubles in two of the three matches as the Huskies went 2-1 for the week. Lindsay also had eight service aces, 22 digs and nine blocking assists during the week.
Lindsay earned her fourth and fifth double-doubles of the season in the Huskies sweep of Little East Conference foe Eastern Connecticut State University and non-conference opponent Curry College this past Saturday. Against ECSU, Lindsay had 11 kills and 20 assists for her double-double, and also contributed three aces, eight digs and three blocking assists as the Huskies handed the Warriors their first conference loss of the season.
Against Curry, Lindsay posted 10 kills and 35 assists, and had two aces, six digs and four blocking assists.
On the season, Lindsay is averaging 1.43 kills (96/67) and 6.33 assists per set. She is second on the team in service aces (26) and third in blocking (1 solo, 29 assists).
Southern Maine, 9-10 overall and 2-2 in Little East Conference play, will host Husson University for a non-conference match on Tuesday (7 p.m.) at the Costello Sports Complex.
